Two Local Athletes Earn Bid to AAU National Team Trials
14 year old Jaylee Sowders, a Colerain Township resident, incoming 9th grader at Walnut Hills High School, and a student of Integrity Martial Arts on Colerain Avenue, placed 3rd at the AAU Taekwondo Nationals in Ft. Lauderdale July 6th, earning her a bid to try out for the AAU National Team in September.
The following week, Sowders competed at the USA Taekwondo Nationals in Richmond, Virginia where she progressed to the 3rd round out of 5, and, although she did not medal, she did earn a bid to the USAT National Team Trials in August.
She is the only athlete in the state of Ohio to be invited to both AAU and USAT National Team Trials. Due to her November birthday, this 14 year old accomplished this feat in the 15 to 17 year old division.
Team Member Zion Ivery, also an incoming 9th grader at Walnut Hills High School and a student at Integrity Martial Arts on Colerain Avenue, also placed 3rd at the AAU Nationals in Ft. Lauderdale and will be trying out for the team trials in September. Ivery has medaled twice in the last 4 years.
Integrity Martial Arts is owned by Master Tony Gaines.
